How to W.I.P part 1 - in the beginning there was spriting...

Post by super_joker on Sat 09 May 2009, 1:09 am

So you want to create a character for mugen???
    :study:

    Don't now exactly how???
    scratch

First you need to know what you are doing, here's what you need to know!
    Cool

    - There is no rules! you can create who ever and what ever, just have in mind that if you are using another creator's char or stage give them credit or even even better ask for permission!

    - Creating takes heaps of time, especially if you want to be original, you need dedication and terminology.

    - Remember your doing it because you have a vision, so stick to it and the rewards could be overwhelming.

Tenchimuyo4ever: "As a creator I'd say plot your time out, cause once you get into your work you might end up losing track of time."

    What programs you need?

    - MS paint (free) or Adobe Photoshop, GIMP (free), EasyGIF, to name a few. Software where you can edit your sprites and create animations, fx and what ever you want!

    - Fighter Factory (free) is the tool used to put together your creation, this is where you control all the sprites, sounds, palletes and code your char's persona!

What sprites you need for a char?

Every char requires certain sprites in order to work properly.

    BASICS

    Stance

Walks (forward and backwards), Running and Dashes.

    Jumps

    Crouching

    Grappleing

    States
    - Dizzy, electrocuted, frozen, burned,

    ATTACKS

    Punches (High, Medium, Light)
    - standing
    - crouching
    - jumping
    - moving/walking

    Kicks (High, Medium, Light)
    - standing
    - crouching
    - jumping
    - moving/walking

    SPECIAL MOVES
    - Attacks that make your char and their style as well as setting them appart from the rest, moves like hadouken by ryu, bicycle kick by liu kang, rising tackle by terry, berserker barrage by wolverine, etc.

    HYPER MOVES
    - Are the super combo finishing moves with crazy animations and blasting sound!
3 is good enough, one for each level, but ther's no limit!
Moves like shinku-sho ryu reppa by ken or royal flush by gambit.

    DEFENSE

Blocking (2 sprites/states blocking and getting hit while blocking)
    - standing
    - crouching
    - in the air

Every one gets hurt once in a while, so don't forget your char needs to show this.
    Here are the required sprites:

    and dont forget the...

    TAUNTS
    - One of the funnest parts, give your chars distinct and unique intros/outros, win poses/losebytime poses and even special intros versus certain opponents.

    SiliconMan
Like i said, takes time, but then again... so does everything you want to achieve!

Sic-1 says: " Never be afraid to post for help, practice your animation skills it takes time to get good at it and don't be afraid to try something new, even if you done it before it might turn out great."
